Buying advice

Memory is one of the cheapest ways to fix a system that feels sluggish, and one of the easiest things to get wrong.

Your processor and motherboard decide the type. AM5 and current Intel platforms use DDR5, while older AM4 and some LGA 1700 builds take DDR4. The two are not interchangeable. Always buy a matched kit rather than two single sticks, so the modules are tested to run together in dual channel.

For gaming today, 16GB is the practical floor and 32GB is the sensible target. Speed matters more on AMD, where DDR5-6000 with a tight CAS latency is the usual recommendation. Remember to enable XMP or EXPO in the BIOS after installing, otherwise your kit runs at base speed rather than its rated one.
